Job cost
Cost-to-complete, per cost code
A six-column job cost report — budget, committed, billed, actual, projected, variance — per cost code, with a reconciliation footer proving the job cost subledger ties to the general ledger. Projected cost is a stated rule (the maximum of revised budget, committed, billed, and actual), not a guess buried in a formula.

AIA-style progress billing — schedule of values, pay applications, stored materials — with the G702/G703 PDF package generated straight from the books, exactly what the owner's lender expects. Retainage receivable is tracked per job with aging and a release workflow. AR aging runs by project, and customer receipts handle unapplied cash and NSF reversal, with cash-in-transit modeled explicitly.

One company or a group
Standalone books per company, combined the way a CPA builds them by hand
Each company in a group is a complete, standalone set of books — its own chart, close calendar, and audit trail, not an entity column bolted onto one ledger. The group layer is derived and read-only: combined statements (never 'consolidated' — that judgment belongs to your CPA under ASC 810) show a column per company, an eliminations column, and a total. Intercompany is flagged at the source through due-to/due-from control accounts, with an eliminations engine that proposes entries a person reviews and posts. An org chart is the control surface — parent, companies, ownership percentages, N-deep trees — and it doubles as where you create or connect a company. A combined bonding package refuses to render until every member company's period is closed, and divisions cover the single-company case without the group machinery.
